In a statement released on Friday, the Federal Reserve said that the deadline for public comments on the proposal to enhance stress test models, as well as scenario transparency and accountability, would be extended by one month to February 21. The Fed stated that the deadline for comments on the proposed 2026 stress test scenarios remains December 1. The annual stress tests were introduced after the 2008 financial crisis to strengthen the banking sector's ability to withstand future economic shocks and to assess banks' performance under hypothetical recession scenarios. Banks have long pushed for modifications to the tests, claiming that the testing burden is excessive.
