- 12:13Swedish IT company hit by ransomware attack causing system paralysis in 200 municipal departments, attackers demand 1.5 bitcoinForesight News reported, citing The Register, that Swedish IT provider Miljödata suffered a ransomware attack, resulting in the paralysis of systems serving approximately 200 municipal departments (about 80% of Sweden's 290 municipalities). This has rendered critical services such as HR, sick leave reporting, and work environment management systems inaccessible. The attackers reportedly demanded a ransom of 1.5 bitcoin (approximately $168,000) in exchange for not disclosing potentially stolen sensitive data, such as medical certificates, rehabilitation plans, and work injury information. Miljödata CEO Erik Hallén confirmed the attack on August 25 and stated that they are working with external experts to investigate and restore the systems. So far, no ransomware group has publicly claimed responsibility. Swedish police and CERT-SE (Computer Emergency Response Team) have launched an investigation.
