The CRO Token: Utility and Tokenomics The native cryptocurrency of the Cronos ecosystem is CRO, which serves as the unifying gas token across all Cronos chains. Its utility extends beyond transaction fees to include staking for network security and earning rewards, participation in governance decisions, and providing liquidity within DeFi protocols. Additionally, CRO can be utilized for NFT purchases and various services within the broader Crypto.com ecosystem, offering benefits such as lower trading fees and enhanced cashback for Crypto.com App users.

Regarding its tokenomics, the initial supply of CRO was 100 billion tokens. In 2021, 70 billion CRO tokens were burned, reducing the total outstanding supply to 30 billion, making CRO a fixed-supply asset. Validators on the network receive CRO from transaction fees, as there are no block rewards.

Ecosystem and Use Cases Cronos aims to support a diverse array of decentralized applications, encompassing DeFi, NFTs, blockchain gaming (GameFi), and metaverse projects. Looking ahead, Cronos has unveiled an ambitious 2025-2026 roadmap focused on establishing itself as a leading infrastructure provider for institutional-grade tokenized financial markets. This roadmap centers on three pillars: infrastructure (developing a purpose-built platform for tokenizing real-world assets like equities, real estate, and commodities, with AI integration), distribution (leveraging Crypto.com's extensive user base), and demand (fostering CRO-backed ETFs and partnerships with digital asset treasury companies). By 2026, Cronos aims to achieve $20 billion in CRO demand from public markets, deploy $10 billion in tokenized real-world assets on-chain, and reach 20 million users across its centralized and decentralized platforms.
