Astria Network announces shutdown after raising $18 million, with mainnet operating for only one year
ChainCatcher news, according to The Block, Astria Network “intentionally ceased” operations on Monday at block height 15,360,577. The project, launched in 2023 and built on top of the Celestia data availability layer, aimed to become a modular decentralized sequencer for Layer 2 networks.
Astria completed a $5.5 million seed round in 2023 and secured $12.5 million in strategic funding in 2024. However, the project recently faced multiple setbacks, including halting development of Flame EVM, the unexpected shutdown of its early development network, the closure of its Celestia validator, and the withdrawal of its only major integrated application, the Astria Bridging Protocol.
