Crypto Market Liquidations Spike Despite Gains

Crypto market sees $617M in liquidations as total market cap hits $3.31T and BTC reacts to Nvidia earnings.Extreme Fear Grips the MarketWhat’s Driving Liquidations?

  • Over $617M in liquidations amid market uptrend.
  • BTC gains 0.6% on Nvidia’s strong earnings report.
  • ETH lags behind as Fear & Greed Index drops to 11.

Despite a modest rise in the crypto market ’s total capitalization to $3.31 trillion, traders are facing intense volatility. The total liquidations crossed $617 million, indicating that many leveraged positions were wiped out even as prices showed minor upward momentum.

Bitcoin ( BTC ) led the day’s movement with a 0.6% increase, now trading at $90,785. The uptick came shortly after Nvidia’s positive earnings report, which boosted market sentiment across tech and crypto sectors. However, this didn’t prevent a wave of liquidations, largely due to over-leveraged long positions betting on faster gains.

Extreme Fear Grips the Market

The Fear & Greed Index (FGI) has plummeted to 11, signaling extreme fear among investors. Despite the rising market cap, this fear reflects ongoing uncertainty and lack of confidence in a sustainable rally.

Ethereum ( ETH ), often seen as a barometer for altcoin performance, continues to underperform, gaining only 0.4% to reach $3,025. This disparity suggests that while Bitcoin reacts to broader tech trends, altcoins like Ethereum are still weighed down by broader market concerns and possibly lower institutional interest.

The crypto market shows mixed performance, with more long liquidations despite rising total market cap. $BTC bounces on Nvidia’s positive earnings, while $ETH continues to lag. $BTC : $90,785 +0.6% $ETH : $3,025 +0.4%

What’s Driving Liquidations?

The spike in liquidations likely stems from aggressive long positions taken during a perceived market recovery. As Bitcoin bounced slightly, many traders expected a stronger rally. However, the market’s failure to deliver rapid upward movement resulted in forced liquidations, especially for those using high leverage.

Meanwhile, the contrast between rising prices and falling sentiment underlines the fragile state of the market. Traders appear torn between bullish macro triggers like Nvidia’s earnings and persistent crypto-native fears around regulation , security, and future Fed actions.
