Sequence Introduces Trails to Simplify Crypto Payments

Sequence, a crypto infrastructure provider previously called Horizon Blockchain Games, has introduced

a platform for orchestrating transactions that aims to make cross-chain payments and token exchanges easier

for both developers and users. This new service

tackles the issue of fragmentation on Ethereum

by allowing users to conduct smooth, single-click transactions across various blockchains, wallets, and tokens.

The

Ethereum

ecosystem, which Sequence CEO Peter Kieltyka refers to as "a network and ecosystem of chains," has consistently faced challenges with interoperability.

Users frequently encounter obstacles

such as bridging assets, handling gas fees, and dealing with incompatible wallet systems when moving funds across layer-2 solutions like

Arbitrum

or Base.

Trails

reduces these complications

by utilizing an "intent-based interoperability" model, where users indicate what they want to do (such as purchasing an NFT), and the platform automatically completes the transaction, combining balances from different chains. For example,

someone with USDC on Arbitrum

but holding the token on other Ethereum layer-2 networks can now make a purchase without needing to manually bridge or swap tokens.

Kieltyka

highlighted that Trails removes

the requirement for users to have tokens, gas, or transaction routes perfectly arranged. Standard wallets

typically show errors

like "insufficient funds" if users don't meet exact criteria, but Trails works in reverse to locate a possible solution if one is available. This method, which Shun Kakinoki calls "practical chain abstraction,"

Sequence's cross-chain lead

, is designed to make the user experience smoother and help developers better monetize on-chain projects.

The platform

works with Circle's CCTP

and has teamed up with Katana Network, launching with support for 16 EVM-compatible blockchains, including Ethereum mainnet, Arbitrum, and Avalanche.
