According to a recent article in The Financial Times, Apple is placing greater emphasis on its succession strategy.

Reports indicate that the company’s board and top executives are making preparations in case Tim Cook decides to leave his role as CEO as early as next year. If this happens, it would likely follow Apple’s financial results announcement in late January, providing the incoming leadership with an opportunity to adjust before major events such as the Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

At 65, Cook has led Apple as CEO since Steve Jobs stepped down in 2011, making his tenure longer than Jobs’s. During Cook’s leadership, Apple’s market value soared from $350 billion to $4 trillion, though the company has reportedly faced challenges in defining its AI strategy.

The Financial Times notes that no conclusive choices have been made regarding who will succeed Cook or when he might leave. Nonetheless, John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, is widely regarded as the leading contender to become the next CEO.
