Elon Musk employs Grok to explore the potential for love

Following the approval of a potentially $1 trillion compensation plan for Tesla by its shareholders, CEO Elon Musk seems to be marking the occasion with a typical weekend on his social media site X.

Early Saturday morning, at the notably specific time of 4:20am EST, Musk shared a video created with Grok Imagine, the latest image and video generator from his company xAI.

According to Musk, the video was made using his prompt: “She smiles and says, ‘I will always love you.’” The resulting clip features an animated woman standing on a rainy street, delivering the line in a clearly artificial voice.

Just twenty-four minutes later, Musk uploaded another Grok-generated video, this time featuring actress Sydney Sweeney, who, in a voice quite unlike her own, says, “You are so cringe.”

As AI-generated women and even virtual relationships with chatbots become more prevalent, many X users reacted strongly to the “always love you” video. One user called it “the most divorced post of all time,” while another described it as “the saddest post in the history of this website.”

Surprisingly, these weren’t the harshest comments Musk faced on X over the weekend. That distinction went to Joyce Carol Oates, the acclaimed 87-year-old author.

Replying to a complex thread where a user quoted Musk’s retort to a Texas state senator who had criticized his pay package, Oates remarked that it’s “so curious” Musk “never shares anything that shows he enjoys or even notices what most people value,” such as posts about family, friends, pets, nature, movies, music, or books.

“He actually comes across as completely uneducated and lacking in culture,” she commented. “Even the poorest people on Twitter might experience more beauty and meaning in life than the so-called ‘richest person in the world.’”

Musk’s reply was brief: “Oates is a liar and takes pleasure in being cruel. Not a good person.”
