Amazon introduces Amazon Bazaar, an affordable standalone shopping app, now available in more than twelve countries

Amazon introduces Amazon Bazaar, an affordable standalone shopping app, now available in more than twelve countries

On Friday, Amazon revealed the launch of Amazon Bazaar, a new budget-friendly shopping platform aimed at customers in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. This service will be offered separately from Amazon’s primary shopping app. According to Amazon, most items on Bazaar are priced below $10, with some available for as little as $2.

The selection of products, which can now be accessed on both Android and iOS, is available through a dedicated app in regions such as Hong Kong, the Philippines, Taiwan, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Nigeria.

Amazon has indicated that additional countries will be able to access the app in the coming months.

This new app shares many similarities with Amazon Haul, which was introduced last November as a rival to Shein and Temu. Haul is integrated into Amazon’s main site and app, and will continue to be available in its current markets, including the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, and Australia.

In some regions, Amazon has already marketed Amazon Haul under the name Bazaar, making it accessible through the main Amazon app. This version is still offered in Mexico, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and India. (It can be confusing that Amazon uses two different names for the same range of low-cost products! However, Amazon believes that using distinct names helps better connect with local languages and cultures.)

By introducing a separate shopping platform for its lower-priced goods, Amazon is intensifying its competition with affordable Chinese shopping apps like Temu, Shein, and TikTok Shop, which have become especially popular among younger shoppers and those with limited budgets for clothing, home decor, electronics, and other essentials.

According to Amazon, the Bazaar app will provide shoppers with access to “hundreds of thousands” of low-cost items in categories such as apparel, home products, and lifestyle goods. Product listings include familiar Amazon features like customer feedback and star ratings.

Shoppers can use their existing Amazon accounts to make purchases and check out, with payment options including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. To qualify for free shipping, orders must meet the minimum purchase threshold set for each country. Otherwise, a standard delivery charge applies to smaller orders.

Delivery typically takes up to two weeks or less, and customers can return items for free within 15 days of receiving them. Amazon also provides multilingual support, and the app itself is available in six languages: English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, and Traditional Chinese.

The app will also feature interactive elements such as social prize draws and special offers, similar to those made popular by Chinese e-commerce platforms. New users will be offered a 50% discount on their first delivery as an incentive to try out the app.
