Chainlink has introduced its Data Streams service on Taiko, establishing it as the designated

infrastructure for the Layer 2 network. This collaboration aims to boost both the performance and reliability of decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms on Taiko by delivering rapid, frequent market data. With Data Streams, users gain instant access to live price information, including liquidity-weighted bid-ask (LWBA) spreads, mid-market prices, and volatility indicators—key components for sophisticated risk controls and settlement operations in DeFi. Taiko operates as a “based rollup,” where Ethereum Layer 1 validators are responsible for sequencing, reinforcing decentralization and resistance to censorship. The implementation of Data Streams supports these values by providing secure, tamper-resistant data feeds while preserving trustless interactions.

The updated Data Streams utilizes a pull-based architecture, letting users retrieve and authenticate onchain data only as required, rather than relying on push-based oracles that refresh at set intervals. This method helps alleviate unnecessary traffic on the network and ensures that users obtain timely, precise data without sacrificing efficiency. Furthermore, a “commit-and-reveal” system is used to guard against frontrunning, making sure trading information becomes visible onchain atomically. This feature is especially vital for products like perpetual futures and options, where ultra-low latency and precise settlement are critical.

From an infrastructure standpoint, Data Streams is engineered to provide maximum availability and resilience. The service functions with an active-active multi-site setup, allowing it to continue operating even if some data sources or nodes experience issues. This dependable design delivers uptime rates of 99.9% or more, making it ideal for essential DeFi services that demand continuous access to information. Bringing Data Streams to Taiko is likely to draw more developers and institutional users to the network, given Chainlink’s established track record with oracles across leading DeFi ecosystems.

In addition to price feeds, Data Streams offers functionalities for a variety of use cases, such as real-time option settlements, prediction markets, and onchain risk controls for trading platforms. Access to detailed market analytics—including liquidity and volatility—enables protocols to dynamically adjust settlements and margin requirements as market conditions change. For example, decentralized exchanges (DEXs) can now obtain and confirm price data during individual trades, instead of constantly updating prices that may not be immediately necessary. This approach is expected to streamline user interactions and lower gas expenses.

The rollout of Data Streams on Taiko highlights the increasing significance of oracle technology within the DeFi landscape. As decentralized applications shift towards real-time engagement and high-frequency trading, having access to secure, decentralized, and low-latency data sources becomes essential. Chainlink’s Data Streams, with its cross-chain support and strong verification methods, is set to be a key enabler for the next wave of DeFi advancements. This integration also demonstrates Taiko’s dedication to developing a scalable and secure DeFi environment, capitalizing on Chainlink’s reputation for dependable oracle solutions.
