Economist: Results of the US Section 232 Investigation and Tariff Plans Will Not Be Implemented Immediately
According to a report by Jinse Finance, the U.S. government is set to announce the results of Section 232 investigations into specific industries such as global semiconductors, pharmaceutical raw materials, servers, key components, and minerals. Economists point out that, procedurally, after the investigation results are released, the U.S. President will take action within 90 days of receiving the report. During this period, other countries will have the opportunity to negotiate with the United States. Therefore, similar to the reciprocal tariffs introduced in early April, the results of the Section 232 investigation and any tariff plans are unlikely to be implemented immediately. The U.S. may introduce an investment framework or structure to further negotiate investment terms with other countries, which could include different durations and amounts in exchange for reduced tariff rates. As for semiconductor tariffs, economists speculate that the rates could range from 20% to 35%. (Jin10)
