Agency: The extension of the tariff "moratorium" has limited relief, and many countries are caught in Trump's tariff crisis
as US President Trump changed the deadline for tariffs to August 1st and adjusted the tariff rates for countries such as Japan and South Korea, although many export-dependent economies in Asia have gained more negotiation time, they have hardly received any relief. This extension has kept many countries in the spotlight of the US government's tariff offensive, and what makes negotiations more complex is that the US may impose industry-specific tariffs on key industries such as automobiles, chips, and pharmaceuticals, which are the economic pillars of many Asian countries.
James Halse, CEO and CIO of Senjin Capital, said: If these tariffs continue to exist, it is likely to have a significant adverse impact on Japanese companies, especially automakers, that export to the US. Such negative effects are likely to ripple through the supply chain, affecting Japanese suppliers who supply these companies even if they do not export to the US themselves. (Jinshi)
