Powell: If the commodity inflation numbers have been consistently strong in the last two months, it must have something to do with tariffs
Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said that if the commodity inflation data in the last two months continue to be strong, it must be related to tariffs. Monetary policy should not be tightened if inflation subsides on its own. It will be known in a few months whether the rise in commodity prices in the first two months of the year stemmed from tariffs.
