MoonPay eyes $150 million deal to acquire Helio Pay

Crypto payments firm MoonPay is reportedly in discussions to acquire Helio Pay, a crypto e-commerce platform, for approximately $150 million.

According to FOX reporter Eleanor Terrett, the acquisition would be MoonPay’s largest to date.

Helio Pay’s platform supports over 6,000 merchants and content creators, enabling payments in Bitcoin, Ether, USD Coin, and numerous other cryptocurrencies.

One of its key integrations includes Solana Pay on Shopify, which hosts over 138 million monthly users.

MoonPay, often referred to as the "PayPal for crypto," provides payment infrastructure that allows users to buy and sell digital assets using credit cards, debit cards, and mobile payment services like Apple Pay and Google Pay.

The firm has a global user base of around 20 million across more than 160 countries.

If finalised, the acquisition would expand MoonPay’s merchant service offerings, further solidifying its presence in the crypto payment sector.

Helio’s self-service payment tools align with MoonPay’s existing solutions, such as its fiat-to-crypto on-ramp infrastructure introduced in November.

This service, called MoonPay Balance, allows users to store and spend fiat balances while integrating seamlessly with decentralized finance protocols.

The proposed acquisition reflects MoonPay’s strategy to broaden its ecosystem. In July, the company launched fiat PayPal on-ramps for European Union and United Kingdom customers, following a similar rollout in the United States earlier this year.

Neither MoonPay nor Helio Pay has commented publicly on the ongoing negotiations.

Founded in 2018, MoonPay was co-founded by Victor Faramond and Ivan Soto-Wright, who also serves as the company’s CEO.

The potential deal could significantly impact MoonPay’s growth and influence within the crypto payments industry.
