President-elect Donald Trump's nominee to lead the Securities and Exchange Commission, Paul Atkins, has connections to a billionaire family through his wife, Sarah Humphreys Atkins. Sarah is the president and largest donor of the J.P. Humphreys Foundation, which donates around $3 million annually to conservative groups. Paul Atkins is a director at both Sarah and her brother David's foundations and runs a consulting firm specializing in advising financial services companies on regulatory compliance. The Atkins and Humphreys families have had overlapping business interests in the past, including serving as directors of three offshore entities affiliated with the Humphreys family. Atkins is also known for his support of cryptocurrencies.
