The president of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party, Ishiba Shigeru, defeated Noda Yoshihiko, the leader of the opposition Constitutional Democratic Party, in the decisive round of the Prime Minister nomination election in the House of Representatives and was re-elected as Japan's Prime Minister. In a vote by 465 members, Ishiba Shigeru received 221 votes. Previously, Ishiba had already won in the Senate Prime Minister nomination election.

It is reported that Ishiba previously believed that blockchain and NFTs could promote regional economies. Earlier on October 1 this year, Ishiba was elected as Japan's 102nd prime minister and announced dissolution of House of Representatives just eight days after taking office - setting a record for fastest dissolution post-election by a prime minister since World War II. On October 27th, voting took place for new House representatives; however, ruling coalition formed by LDP and Komeito suffered defeat failing to secure majority seats in new house assembly. According to Japanese constitution rules following an election within thirty days special Diet session must be convened to conduct PM nomination elections.
