Telegram to open office in Kazakhstan to improve regulatory compliance
Telegram is improving compliance by setting up local offices and communicating with regulatory authorities in Kazakhstan. The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan announced on October 14 that Telegram has agreed to appoint a local representative and open an office in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Minister Zhaslan Madiyev said that Telegram's physical presence in the country will be "an important step in strengthening control over message platform content." Given Telegram's wide influence in the country, this move is significant. According to Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov, 12.5 million Kazakhstanis (more than half of the country's 20 million population) use Telegram every month, a 25% increase from 2023.
