SEC Delays Ruling on Cboe-Listed ETH ETF Options Again
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has reportedly delayed its ruling on Cboe Exchange's listing of options related to spot Ether (ETH) exchange-traded funds (ETFs) again, with a new deadline of 3 December.
Cboe filed a petition with the SEC in August seeking authorisation to list options on nine ETFs, including BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust ETF, Fidelity Ethereum Fund, Grayscale Ethereum Trust and others.
The SEC in September deferred a similar application by the Nasdaq Electronic Exchange for approval to list options on the iShares Ethereum Trust.
On 20 September, the SEC authorised Nasdaq to list options related to BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF, iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT).
Options on the BTC ETF are expected to be available in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2025. bloomberg Intelligence analyst James Seyffart said the first quarter of 2025 is more likely.
An option is a contract that grants the right to buy or sell an underlying asset at a specific price. In the U.S., if one party fails to honour the agreement, the OCC steps in and settles the trade.
The listing of spot crypto options on regulated US exchanges marks a significant advancement in the crypto market and creates an attractive opportunity for investors.
