ChainCatcher news, the Hong Kong government plans to issue digital green bonds denominated in US dollars, Hong Kong dollars, euros, and renminbi again, with pricing expected soon. This will be the third time the Hong Kong government has issued digital bonds since 2023, with the previous two issuances totaling 6.8 billion Hong Kong dollars.

S&P Global Ratings and Fitch Ratings have assigned ratings of "AA+" and "AA-" respectively to the various currencies of the digital bonds to be issued by Hong Kong, consistent with their long-term foreign and local currency issuer ratings for Hong Kong. According to reports, the digital bonds can be issued via a Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) platform or on public blockchains such as Ethereum, with public blockchains potentially offering greater flexibility. Compared to traditional bonds, digital bonds may not only offer shorter settlement times and lower costs, but also accelerate expansion by leveraging the growing appeal of blockchain-based securities.
